The fountain now stands in the middle of Kevelciler Square, some four metres below street level. One of Erzurum's most important fountains, known well beyond the city, it is among the first places visitors seek out. Together with the Şabakhane fountains just to its west it refreshes the thirsty. Because tanneries stood in this quarter, the Lala Paşa Bath built for the workers to wash in, and the many fountains that met their need for water, drew commerce and the craft guilds together in this area.
