According to its inscription the fountain was built by Hacı Dede Ağa in AH 1285 / AD 1868.

What the restoration involved

Removed during the Yakutiye City Square works and found to be badly damaged, the fountain was rebuilt from its drawings. Its original stones are preserved in the Erzurum Archaeology Museum.
